The Modern Craft Kit

Finding Innovation in the Interface

The Modern Craft Kit explores opportunities for manipulating physical and digital components. Simple coding interfaces, such as Blockly and Scratch are coupled with physical design manipulations to allow for myriad material explorations and solutions.

Step 1: Purchase a Kit

Each kit is inspired by  a particular piece of contemporary fine art. This provides the opportunity for the user to have a personal connection with a piece of fine art while also providing new avenues for collaboration with fine artists.

The kit allows the user to explore prisms' physical properties, something digital manipulations often cannot  well replicate.

Step 2: Assemble and Explore

Integrated auto-share function allows kits to automatically signal when it has been completed.

In addition to the physical components in the kit. Users will also be given access to digital tools for manipulating similar materials without the restraints of physicality.

Step 3: Create Content

Access online spaces where the child can use Scratch or Blockly inspired code to manipulate digital simulations of his/her physical material. Invent new opportunities for patterns or installations. Upload your work to the online maker site. Make new friends and build a community of digital and physical innovators.

Step 4: Share Online

Creativity, inspiration and innovation are very personal experiences that drive much of the world’s successes. We believe that combining digital with physical material platforms will allow for multi-faceted learning with complex material and technological outcomes.

It's fun!
